Overview
Provide an interactive, remotely controllable terminal workspace using zellij, allowing the agent to start/manage sessions, send keystrokes, and scrape pane output for tools that require a real TTY (REPLs, interactive CLIs, multi-pane workflows).
Key Advantages
1.Enables true interactive TTY workflows that basic exec/background tools cannot handle (e.g., REPLs, prompts, ncurses-style tools).
2.Supports multi-session and multi-pane orchestration, making it suitable for running several concurrent agents or tasks in parallel.
3.Clear data directory convention (CLAWDBOT_ZELLIJ_DATA_DIR) to isolate state and avoid clobbering user’s normal zellij setup.
4.Provides established patterns for safely sending input (write-chars, control keys) and scraping output via pipe, plus helper scripts for waiting on prompts and finding panes.
5.Gated to darwin/linux with explicit requirement of zellij on PATH, reducing risk of silent failures on unsupported platforms.
Use Cases
- Running interactive Python or other language REPLs that need a real TTY and step-by-step interaction.
- Driving interactive CLIs (package managers, deployment tools, database shells, etc.) that do not behave correctly in non-TTY exec environments.
- Orchestrating multiple coding agents or long-lived workers in parallel zellij sessions, each in its own working directory.
- Monitoring long-running interactive processes by piping pane output and waiting for specific text or prompts before proceeding.
- Ad-hoc multiplexed development environments where the agent needs to keep several panes/sessions alive and revisit them over time.

**Judgment:** A powerful, fairly mature skill for interactive terminal control via zellij, best used when a real TTY is required (REPLs, interactive CLIs, multi-agent orchestration). It’s overkill for simple one-off commands but very valuable for complex or long-lived interactive workflows.
**Key strengths:**
- Provides robust session/pane management with zellij, including sending keystrokes and scraping pane output.
- Supports structured patterns for monitoring prompts and coordinating multiple concurrent agents.
- Uses a dedicated data directory convention to keep state contained and predictable.
**Main risks / limitations:**
- Requires zellij installed and only works on macOS/Linux; completely unavailable on other platforms.
- Allows execution of arbitrary shell commands and control sequences, so it carries the usual terminal-level risk of destructive operations (rm, database changes, etc.).
- Operational complexity: sessions, pane IDs, and helper scripts require careful prompting and may be error-prone if mismanaged.
**Recommended scenarios:**
- When a tool demands an interactive TTY (language REPL, interactive CLI, or TUIs) and cannot be driven reliably via simple exec/background commands.
- When orchestrating many concurrent coding agents or long-running interactive tasks that need to stay attached to persistent sessions.
- When you need to watch for specific text in output (prompts, completion markers) before sending further input.
For simple, non-interactive or fire-and-forget jobs, prefer a basic exec/background skill and reserve this zellij skill for cases where those approaches fail or are clearly inadequate.
